Florence’s Domestic Violence Prevention Advocacy (1995-2017)
Overview
Beginning in 1995 (at age 68), Dr. Florence Chinn Loui served on state commissions focused on preventing domestic violence and advocating for women’s health and safety. In 1996, she edited a special issue of the Hawaii Medical Journal dedicated to domestic violence, bringing medical authority and attention to this critical public health issue. Florence continued this advocacy work alongside her medical practice well into her 80s, demonstrating lifelong commitment to protecting vulnerable populations.
